[For Matt]

Sally wasn't sure exactly why she'd turned up at the aforementioned meeting place. Sure, she wanted to meet men as much as ever, but she had never stooped to the point of allowing a shirtless man with wings to tell her that he had a match for her. On the other hand, he was a rather handsome bloke, so at least there was that.

She had put on a decent frock with boots and jacket and was waiting in the kitchen with a book in hand, figuring that whoever she was meeting was going to know her by that. And if she happened to be extremely wary about who came in the door, she could always...oh, well, deck the person making dinner with the book.

In the game of love, sometimes people just got hurt.

Matt was pretty sure that he'd just lost his mind, the island had finally gone to his head, because now he'd let himself be coerced into going on a blind date, by a guy with wings. Wings!

Yeah, he was crazy.

But there he was, heading to the kitchen to meet his blind date. Man, he really hoped this ended well. And not necessarily in the Gets-a-Girlfriend kind of end well, but the kind of ends well that doesn't involve him getting punched in the face by anyone. Regardless, he'd cleaned himself up, finding a decent button-down shirt and a pair of pants that, well, weren't jeans. It was an improvement over a hoodie and an ironically funny t-shirt, really.

Matt spotted the woman in the kitchen with the book and figured he'd found his blind date. Cue feeling of relief that the dude with the wings didn't set him up with another guy. "Hey," he said, going over to her, "I'm Matt."

Sally turned at the sound of a voice and catalogued everything at once. American, vaguely young (but she wasn't exactly on death's door seeing as she refused to acknowledge that death existed) and mildly well-dressed. She let her shoulders lift in mild anticipation. "I'm Sally," she greeted, in full-on date mode, smiling and all.

She leaned in conspiratorially. "Are we mad for letting a winged man say 'hey, how about a date'?"

"Nice to meet you," Matt said, smiling at her and trying not to act awkward. So far, so good. She wasn't a man, and she didn't look like an axe murderer. So that was two potential issues down.

"And yeah, I think we've both probably lost it a little bit, but..." He shrugged. "You don't say no to a dude with wings, I guess."

"I was rather afraid if I did say no, he was going to sweep me to the floor with the wings in one big angry gesture," she confessed, using her hands to demonstrate. "So!" she fluttered mildly anxiously. "Do you want to stay here or go?"

"Let's get out of here," Matt said after glancing around the kitchen. There were always a million people around in the kitchen, and being surrounded by people, and being interrupted by them, and being watched, and... well, okay, people in general sometimes made him a little paranoid. "If we stay in one spot, winged dude has more chances of, I don't know, finding us." And thus justifying Matt's paranoia. Not that he thought about these things.

"You don't think he'd actually sit there observing us to make sure we're doing as he wants, do you?" Sally asked, not precisely sure that she would put it past him. After all, the bloke had wings. Stranger things had happened, she was sure.

Matt raised his eyebrows, letting Sally's question hang out there for a moment or two. "That wouldn't surprise me, actually," he pointed out. "Meddling seems to be his MO, it looks like."

[identity profile] dinnerfor1-girl.livejournal.com 2010-02-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"And with wings so largely spanned, he seems as though he could be quite the dangerous meddler," she noted thoughtfully, slightly bemused. "Did you want to go to the Winchester? It might even seem like an actual date!"

"Yeah, let's check that out," Matt agreed, trying to wipe the image out of his head of Crazy Winged Dude lurking and meddling. Like he wasn't paranoid enough already. "I haven't really been there much, anyway." Really, he didn't go many places that weren't the compound or, well, the compound, but that was another story entirely.

"Well, the food and the wine are a fairly good incentive, as far as I'm concerned," Sally assured, adjusting her frock to assure that she looked thin from every angle as she began to walk down the path. "So, then? What's your story?"

[identity profile] f4rr3ll.livejournal.com 2010-02-20 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Me?" Matt shrugged. "Back at home, I worked with computers, accidentally got dragged into some apocalypse end of the world crap." He hooked his thumbs in his pockets, talking about the whole thing incredibly nonchalantly. "Came here right after helping avert this ridiculous destroy-the-American-government thing." He smiled, a bit awkwardly. "Really I just clicked a lot of buttons. Typed fast, knew how to break the right codes and stuff. That's all." He shrugged again. "How about you?" Matt offered Sally a big grin, knowing just how ridiculous his whole pre-island experience was.

"Well, I owned my own beauty shop for women," Sally said proudly, because it had cost her a lot of sweat and tears. It had also let her lose stress-weight, so it all came out fairly evenly. "But nothing so interesting as averting a destruction of the American government. You're a bit like James Bond, aren't you?"

[identity profile] f4rr3ll.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Matt laughed then, because the idea of him as James Bond was basically the most hilarious thing he'd ever heard. He quickly realized that laughing in someone's face was pretty rude, though, so he stopped abruptly. "Sorry," he said, catching his breath, "it's just that I'm as un-James-Bond as, uh. Anything. It was all, you know, wrong place at the right time. Or right place at the wrong time? I don't know, I just got sucked into this whole plot and had to run after an angry cop and try not to die." Really, a beauty shop sounded like much better of an idea than averting a governmental meltdown.

"Well, you seem to be standing here sane, so I'm assuming that it worked out fairly well?" she offered as they walked along. "And if you are just suppressing all the madness, you're doing a good job of it."

[identity profile] f4rr3ll.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm very good at, you know, hiding being a jittery crazy man." Oh, wait, not a good way to make a first impression, even if it was on a blind date set by a crazy guy with wings. "Just kidding," he added. "Really."

[identity profile] dinnerfor1-girl.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sally gave him a slight smile, not entirely displeased with the date thus far. Which was good, because she didn't have Patrick to save her in the event that it did go down the drain. "Any important things I should know about? Allergies, likes, dislikes...former marriages?"
